The Urban Innovation Fund is a venture capital firm that invests in startups shaping the future of cities. The Fund provides seed capital and regulatory support to startups tackling our toughest urban problems – helping them grow into tomorrow’s most valued companies. With 81% of Americans living in cities, and two-thirds of the world's population urbanizing by 2050, there are a growing number of challenges facing urban dwellers. The Urban Innovation Fund invests in startups creating scalable solutions to address these challenges. We find the most promising companies at the pre-seed and seed stage, and provide them with capital and hands-on support to scale to cities across the globe.
Job description
We’re looking for a Summer Associate to focus on sourcing the highest quality startups tackling urban problems. You will be part of a small and energetic team, working closely with the General Partners.
The Summer Associate should excel at working in an independent environment with a distributed team. That said, we do value in-person engagement. At a minimum, the Summer Associates will be expected to be in the office (in downtown San Francisco) four days a week. We’re looking for an energetic go-getter who wants to help build a best-in-class venture capital fund.
The primary functions of the Associate position include:
Deal sourcing (~85% of the time): This will form the most important part of the job, and include researching, identifying, screening, and performing investment due diligence on urban innovation startups. You will serve as an ambassador for our firm, and focus on sourcing early-stage opportunities at the pre-seed and seed. We value a go-getter that will be proactive in sourcing new opportunities and bringing or developing a unique sourcing network.
Support to portfolio companies (~15% of the time): The Associate will assist in providing support services to our portfolio of startups. This might include financial modeling, market research, etc.
This is a 12-week position and will pay $15K.
